The Cameron T81 Side Cover Blowout Preventer is a critical well control device for oil and gas drilling, workover and well testing operations, specially engineered for wellbore pressure control and blowout & leakage prevention under extreme downhole conditions. As a classic model under the Cameron brand, it adopts a side cover-type core structure design, integrating high-strength manufacturing processes and precision sealing technology. Boasting stable and reliable performance, broad operating condition adaptability and convenient maintenance features, it provides all-round safety assurance for various oil and gas well operations, and serves as a preferred piece of equipment for high-pressure, high-risk well control scenarios.
Core components including the BOP body, side covers and rams are all forged from high-grade alloy steel and undergo integral heat treatment strengthening. Endowed with excellent high-pressure resistance and impact toughness, it can effortlessly handle complex pressure conditions with a rated working pressure of up to 5000psi (35MPa), catering to the operational requirements of deep oil and gas wells.
It adopts a modular side cover structure, abandoning the complicated traditional connection methods. The side covers are precisely attached to the body via high-strength bolts, allowing for simple and quick disassembly. When it is necessary to inspect and repair vulnerable parts such as rams and seals, the chamber can be directly exposed only by loosening the side cover fixing bolts, which significantly shortens on-site maintenance time and reduces equipment downtime costs.
A multi-layer sealing protection system is established, forming an initial seal through four key sealing points: between the ram top and body, between the ram front and string/ram itself, between the body and side covers, and between the ram shaft and side covers. Downhole pressure can reversely push the ram to further fit the sealing surface, achieving a pressure-assisted sealing effect, where sealing reliability increases with the rise of operating pressure. An emergency secondary sealing mechanism is equipped; when the sealing ring is accidentally damaged, quick repair can be realized through grease injection, effectively preventing the leakage from worsening.
It covers a full range of mainstream wellbore size specifications including 7 1/16", 9" and others, which can accurately match different wellbore diameters and string sizes. Compatible with various ram types such as pipe rams and blind rams, it is adapted to all kinds of downhole tools like standard tubing, drill pipes and drill collars, meeting the operational needs of multiple scenarios.
Metal components in contact with well fluids are all treated with professional anti-corrosion processes. The sealing surfaces of side covers adopt stainless steel overlay welding technology, complying with the NACE MR-0175 standard for sulfide stress cracking resistance. It can withstand corrosive well fluid environments such as sulfur-containing and high-salinity conditions, prolonging the service life of the equipment under harsh working conditions and ensuring long-term operational stability.
It features a user-friendly operation design with clear linkage logic between side covers and rams. Precise control is achieved through mechanical transmission or hydraulic auxiliary drive (depending on specific configurations), ensuring stable and labor-saving operation and avoiding the risk of jamming. A manual locking device is provided; for long-term well shut-in, the ram position can be fixed via mechanical locking to prevent potential safety hazards caused by misoperation.
This device is widely used in onshore and offshore oil and gas drilling, workover and well testing operations, and is particularly suitable for scenarios with high well control requirements such as oil and gas wells, sulfur-containing gas wells and deep exploration wells. Its stable sealing performance, high-strength structural design and convenient maintenance features can effectively address complex challenges such as downhole pressure fluctuations and corrosive medium erosion, providing solid protection for the safety of operators and equipment, and facilitating the efficient and compliant execution of oil and gas drilling and production operations.
